It seemed like such a short time ago that she had lusted after her matriarch, only to be rejected, ridiculed, then abandoned. In reality it had been years ago. In a completely different land, nonetheless. The hyena glanced around herself. Any animal that washed up on this island could say they knew of a different land. Nothing was the same anymore. Shenzi raised a paw and slammed it back to the barren earth. She stared at her foot for a moment, then heaved a sigh. Nothing would ever be the same. But at least she could forget her past, and look to the future. Perhaps here others wouldn't be so hateful. Perhaps they'd learned, from having been violently torn from their homes and thrown ashore here, what she had at a very young age. If any animal here had the ability to accept others regardless of sexuality, species, color, or what-have-you, then she would come to love this place. She knew it was too soon for fantasies, but she desperately hoped that she would be able to find someone here who could hold her heart.
A hot wind blew across the prairie, and the hyena lifted her nose to test it for scents. She wasn't exactly disappointed when she nosed nothing but hot air and dust. Picking up her paws, she moved forward at a leisurely walk. She'd entered the island by beach, as about any animal did, but had gravitated to the south for reasons beyond her comprehension. Though she couldn't fathom why she had decided to come this direction, she was glad she had. The south was very much like her home regions of Africa. The only thing it lacked was the ever-chuckling bodies of more spotted hyenas, surrounding her in a clan. She lifted her head as a buzzard cast its shadow over her head. "If I find more of my kind," She mumbled in promise toward the buzzard. "I shall bring them together and form a clan. We shall thrive in each other's company." In response the bird leaned to the right and wheeled away, flapping at irregular intervals. Shenzi chuckled. She knew it couldn't hear her, but her speech was made for own benefit.

Avalon loped along, her tongue out as she panted. How long had she been running? The jingling of the rings around her body were her only comfort. How long? Where was she? the lioness snorted as she slowed down to a trot like gait. Her amber colored eyes searched the barren and home like terrain. Her tail twitched and the rings on her tail jingled a bit. Avalon was a killer, she was had been tried to kill anything to ensure her survival and please the humans who owned her. Each ring was a symbol to others back home of her victories. She had been indestructible and invincible. Her enemies always fell before her in a puddle of their own blood.
Her chest heaved, the lioness needed water, and food. She hadn't seen a single suitable anaimal to prey on since she crashed here upon the dreadful island. But something else suddenly perked her interest. Her ears shot forward and she listened closely. Someone was speaking nearby inaudible. Avalon caught the familiar scent of hyena? Huh, she thought, how strange that she would find one here. She crouched low to the ground, her body tensing as she crawled along toward her prey. While she wasn't very found of hyena meat, she didn't care. Food was food. Hell, she'd even eat her own kind at this point-that's how hungry she was. Her amber eyes were hyper-focused as she caught a view of her prey.
She moved slowly, silently closer and closer to the female hyena. Her stomach growl slightly demanding food be set to it. "Hush hush" she muttered to her tummy. A growl rumbled in her chest. Suddenly her back legs let loose their tension and her body was flung upwards and forwards toward her prey. She let out a roar as she hurled over the dingy bushes toward the canine. Her muscles rippled under her golden sandy pelt showing that she was a well seasoned hunter. Her claws un-seethed, and her teeth bared as she bolted ready to kill her meal.

Redrum didn't like staying in one place for too long. It was all instinct really. Despite the fact she patrolled her borders every day and kept a steady eye on wandering scents and dusted tracks, Red was alone.
Oh yeah, you heard that right. Borders. Patrols. It was a pure mistake, but she had decided she would open her arms to those around her. If someone wanted to stay, then they could stay. Come and go as they please. She had already decided on a cool name and had rules all set-up to go. But no-one had arrived and preferably, Red liked it that way.
The island was big anyway, and to assert herself, assuming that was what leaders did, so Redrum explored. Maybe find another dog like herself, or the odd hyena. After all, this particular praries was similiar to the barren savannahs. Sighing, Redrum sat in the dirt. Raising a leg, she scratched wildly at an ear. Her every limb was sore as the nightmares appeared behind closed eyelids. Redrum had kind of hoped that the island would bring some change to the terrors but alas, no such luck.
Her earks perked and Redrum tried to focus on the sound. Yes, hissing. A snake. Getting to her paws slowly, she padded forward and smirked. A rattle-snake hissed looking at her with non-blinking eyes. It's tail rattled as it could feel the lingering vibrations through the ground, although her standing still messed with it's eyesight. So it turned after some internal debate to it's kill when Redrum striked. It wiggled in her teeth but she snapped it's neck letting it fall next to the small burrowing owl before gathering them both in her mouth.
She praised herself on the luck and wit for the situation, but mostly luck that she had come across a dumb snake. Seriously. Chuckling through her mouthful of food, Redrum decided to let the happiness run through her limbs, making her pace bouncy. The gait was strange in comparison to Redrum's usual slouching. It was then as she kicked up some dirt that she paused. Through the usual range of shrubbery did she the hyena, and the scent of lion was brief, yet close.
Grimacing, she sat and cursed herself for believing that her day was going to go anywhere but down.
